135 Sweet Dreams



So here is my latest project!  :)
I am partnering with a few other Mommies and we are on a mission to replace the beds at the Ethiopian government orphanages for girls and boys.  Back in February on Valentine's Day I sent a message on facebook that Jim and I had visited these orphanages and their beds were in deplorable conditions (and that's putting it mildly)....

Our friend Carrie came up with an idea to fund raise and come up with enough money to replace the mattress, sheet and blanket for the 135 beds in the girls home.  Once we do that we will move on to the boys home. 

Our goal is to raise enough money to replace all the beds.  The cost to replace one bed is $30 USD.   As of right now we have 75 beds covered and counting (and the website isn't even a week old yet).  Carrie will be heading back to Ethiopia at the end of April to be with her baby girl and the plan is for her to take the funds with her and oversee that the beds get replaced.  That way we just don't send the money over and who knows where it would end up......so I'm reaching out to all my friends and family to see if we can get your help too. 

Would you want your child to sleep in this condition?  Typically there may be 2-3 girls to one bed....


Here's the difference....look at the beds my kids slept in at Tikuret care center which is a private facility.....compared to the government orphanages these beds look like luxury accommodations.

3.  Donate- you can make a donation right on the website via pay pal, you can also write out a check and mail it to Carrie in San Diego (the address is on the website also) or if its easier you can just give me a check or cash and I'll make sure it gets forwarded.  Remember $30 replaces one bed (the mattress cost $20USD and the sheet and blanket $10USD) but we will take what ever you can donate!  :) 

Think about what you spend $30 on a week?  Starbucks coffee?  Lottery tickets?  Lunch out?   How about spending it on a new bed for someone who really needs it?
