Our first month.....

It's officially been one month since Jayson and Jordan became ours and in this month there have been many  learning's and craziness not just for Jay and Jordan but for Mom and Dad too......here are some of them!

Parental mishaps:

1.  Letting Jordan over indulge in a traditional Ethiopian lunch before a 16 hour flight-  BIG MISTAKE!!!  I think I literally went through 15 diapers and 3 outfits for him on that flight along with me wearing poop, snot, slobber and coffee that got spilled all over my clothes.  Thank God for the advice of one of my Mommy friends that said pack your kids some extra clothes and yourself some too.

2.  Jim's first poop diaper-  He survived it.....he was so concerned that there would be a poop diaper and I wouldn't be around that he told me if it happened he would call back up and have one of our family members come over or pay a neighbor $20 to change it.  Well, he's changed them and survived!  The only issue.....the smelly fumes must have confused him because he puts diapers on backwards..... :-\

3.  Locked out-  2nd day home and Jim and I were out on the patio re-arranging the furniture to give the kids more room to play.....they locked us out!  Note to self:  hide a house key for future emergencies...

4.  Overalls-  I always thought that little kids in overalls looked so cute.....NOT!  Those torture contraptions are a nightmare to get off when you have to change diapers.  I have a pair of 18 months overalls free to a good home!  :)

5.  Our 4 year old's birthday celebration after dinner-  Notice the sugar coma to your right.....once that wore off it was like we had 2 Energizer bunnies at the house.  Next time the festivities will be in the afternoon!  It took us FOREVER to get them to sleep that night!!!!    We also saw blue poop for days from the frosting...I was beginning to think we had adopted two Ethiopian Smurfs.  ;)

6.  Noisy toys- For some reason the majority of the toys my kids have been getting make a lot of noise.....they play songs, make cranking, beeping, honking and all other kinds of sounds.  Could this be payback for toys that I had gotten others in the past??????   Any who....Mom and Dad have been taking the batteries out of some of them (that drive us extra crazy....like the talking Winnie the Poo cart....Oy veh! ) when the boys go to sleep.  In the morning they wake up and blame each other for why this particular toy isn't working......it typically starts with Jayson coming to me with a complaint in Amharic that his little brother Jordan broke it.  I just shake my head and agree or say "Mommy doesn't know what happened."  I know its bad that I do that.....but people, its for the sake of my own sanity!  :)  And one day our boys will read this and Jim and I will be soooo BUSTED!

7.  Mommy's OCD (Obsessive Cleaning Disorder)-   Those that know me well, know that I have a cleaning and making sure that everything is in it's place problem.  So you can imagine how much I was twitching when Jayson and Jordan started moving things and putting toys everywhere .... I mean EVERYWHERE....just last night I stubbed my toe on Thomas the Train which was strategically placed in the kitchen by a 2 yr old.  I'm missing part of a toe nail thanks to Thomas!

Kiddie Shenanigans:

1.  The washer and dryer DISCOVERED!-  They are totally fascinated by the noise that comes out of the washer and dryer.  I can find them in the laundry room listening to them.

2.  Laundry basket derby-  Laundry baskets make good go carts.

3.  Electronic Gadgets-  They love gadgets...cell phones, ipods, lap tops.  I had to give Jayson one of my old cell phones.  Here he is texting and hopefully not calling China (just kidding the phone doesn't work).

4.  Shoes-  They discovered our closets and are having a great time wearing our shoes.....as seen here in one of Dad's pair of Jordans.....
5.  They love Daddy's big boy toys-  Golf cart discovered on our first day home.  Jim already taught them how to ride the lawn mower....and they have helped mulch the yard (well, I guess I shouldn't call it helped, more like a mulch mess!)  ;)

6.  They do silly little dances

Note:  To hear the sound of the videos, you have to stop the default playlist below...

7.  We love that they love our family and friends!  They love their grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that have come to visit.....they are also learning a little bit of Spanish as we are calling my Mom and Dad (Abuela and Abuelo) and my sister (Titi- pronounced "tee tee" for those of you that think we are teaching our kids inappropriate things) ;)

Our kids are amazing and we love them so much!!!!

  1. You are a riot. We have also done a few of your parenting "whoopsies" - namely birthday cake and noisy toys. So great to hear from you. Rejoicing that J&J are finally home. :)
